Class 1 - We have had a lovely week enjoying the beautiful weather and exploring for signs of spring. The children have enjoyed drawing daffodils, creating them with plasticine and spotting the flowers around the school grounds (not picking them). In phonics, we continue to review all the sounds we have learnt so far, review our tricky words and explore longer words; we even explored some compound words! In Nursery, they have been exploring ‘h’ and have been singing ‘A sailor went to sea...’ In Maths, we have continued to review doubles up to 10 and have been investigating 3D shapes. In Nursery they have been exploring the number 7. As part of forest school, we did our usual exploring and digging but did some cooking and made pita pockets and s’mores. We had hoped to get the greenhouse up and plant some more seeds but we ran out of time! The children have been enjoying the challenges of their P.E. lessons and are developing their ball skills well. As part of our R.E. lesson we explored Palm Sunday and continued to review the Easter story, focusing on the message of new life, love and forgiveness. We have also been creating our maps of me, using the photographs that you have sent in. We hope you have a great weekend, whatever you get up to and look forward to seeing you next week and hearing all about it. Thank you again for all your support.
Class 2 focused on their hearing and smell senses during science this week, to try to guess which foods were hidden inside various sensory boxes. In R.E. we talked about the main events of ‘The Easter Story’ and what happened on each day, we then re-enacted ‘The Last Supper’ and found out what Jesus said. During Art, the children completed their Paul Klee inspired self-portraits, with fantastic results! In English, we finished writing our information texts and our next step is write these up neatly. We have been learning about equal and unequal groups as part of our multiplication and division unit in mathematics. Our P.E. lessons were basked in Spring sunshine, within our ‘feet’ lesson we worked on our dribbling and passing skills then applied this into attacking and defending mini games. During our ‘hands’ lesson, we focused on hitting the tennis ball accurately at, over and under a target, in partnership with a partner. During history, pupils identified toys that were played with in the past and are also still played with today, such as skipping ropes, dolls and teddy bears. We then compared similarities and differences between these toys and thought about how they had changed.
Class 3 have been working incredibly hard on their “approaching threat” narratives, and their writing has been impressive! The children have been experimenting with a range of techniques to build suspense and engage the reader, including using thoughtful questions, creative similes, and a variety of conjunctions to extend their ideas. It has been wonderful to see their confidence grow as they incorporate exciting and ambitious vocabulary into their work. Well done Class 3.
In maths, we have been developing our understanding of equivalent fractions, using fraction walls to help visualise and compare different values. We have also been working really hard on using mathematical vocabulary in our explanations and being a good talk partner. In history, Class 3 are busy preparing presentations for their Anglo-Saxon topic. They are working hard to research, organise their ideas, and practise their speaking skills, ready to record their presentations next week—we can’t wait to see the final results!
Class 4 have engaged in a wide range of learning experiences this week.
In English, pupils have been developing their journalistic writing skills through the creation of newspaper articles. They have focused on adopting an appropriately formal tone, structuring their work with clear sub-headings, and incorporating witness quotations to enhance authenticity.
In Science, the class conducted a comparative test to investigate which materials provide the most effective insulation. Pupils worked methodically to plan the enquiry, observe results, and draw conclusions based on the evidence gathered.
During PE, pupils demonstrated cooperation and focus while developing their badminton skills. They worked well in pairs and small groups, showing perseverance and a positive attitude throughout the sessions.
In Design and Technology, pupils explored structural engineering by designing and constructing truss bridges using spaghetti. This activity encouraged careful planning, problem-solving, and an understanding of what contributes to a stable and durable structure.
Class 4 have also continued preparations for the upcoming Easter Service, practising their songs and spoken parts with enthusiasm and commitment.
