Class 1- The children have been brilliant this week and shown so much resilliance and passion. They have been truly amazing in the Music Festival and we have all been blown away by the way they sang but also how they all took part in the whole performance. The children have also had a lovely visit from Rachel (NISCU), who shared with them the Easter story. We have been making love hearts and cards for Mother’s Day and have been talking to the children about how we need to take care of our environment by tidying up and being careful and kind with our things at home and in school. Hopefully the children will keep their bedrooms tidy and help around the house this weekend (and in the future), just in time for Mother’s Day. We have been continung with reviewing our sounds and exploring longer words in Reception and in Nursery they have been exploring ‘r’ and have been singing Down at the Station. In Maths we have been revisiting doubles up to 10 and looking at number composition to 10 aswell in Reception. In Nursery they have been looking at the number 6. We have also braved the elements for a little bit and had some time outside as part of forest school; noticing the changes of spring and planting some more seeds to go in our new greenhouse (which needs a bit of TLC after the winds). We hope you have a wonderful weekend whatever you get up to and look forward to seeing you next week. Thank you again for all your support.
This week Class 2 visited Tullie House Museum as part of their ‘How have toys changed’ History topic. Our toys and games workshop involved handling real toys from the past, from up to 120 years ago, until the modern day. In our house groups, we rotated around four different categories of old toys. The first was moving toys which we were mainly made of wood, which we needed to pull, push, twist, wind, balance or shake to make then move, amongst these moving toys, pinball proved a popular marble target game. The second activity was outdoor toys, which included metal hoops with handles, cup and balls, bean bags, skittles and we also saw footage of different outdoor games being played in the past. The third station was homemade toys, where pupils all made a wooden, spoon doll using craft materials. Our final fourth station involved ordering teddy bears on a timeline, playing games such as marble solitaire as well as creating story scenes though linking cards together. In the afternoon, we enjoyed viewing the museum then finally a garden sensory trail.
During mathematics, we’ve been counting in twos, fives and tens as we started our new multiplication and division unit. In English we have started planning our writing our ‘Wild Thing’ information text. During PSHE we thought about the emergency services, and the people who can help keep us safe in times of need. Through paired role-play, we practiced calling the different departments (fire, police, ambulance) dialing 999, asking for the correct department and asking for help.
Class 2 were amazing on our visit this week as well as within our music performances, well done everyone!
Class 3 have had a fantastic week and have been working hard in their lessons. In Maths, we have been learning about unit and non-unit fractions, and in English we have been practising how to use apostrophes for contractions and possession. The children have shown great focus and determination, and it has been lovely to see their confidence growing. We also loved taking part in the school Music Festival, especially our class favourite “Gran, Can You Rap?”- weren't we cool! Our individual musicians made us very proud with their confidence and talent. Well done!
We also enjoyed a trip to Tullie House Museum and Art Gallery, where the children explored the gladiators exhibition and gathered facts for their research booklets. In the Anglo-Saxon workshop we learned new words, solved kenning riddles and looked at artefacts. The class represented the school brilliantly and were even described as a “studious bunch” by a member of staff!
Thank you
It's been another very busy week in Class 4. In English, we have been learning about how to write a newspaper report. In maths, everyone has been practising algebra and decimals. What an amazing music festival, the children sang their hearts out with lots of dancing and fantastic musicians. We have brilliant talent at Crosby school! In Science, the children have been investigating the hardness of materials. Everyone enjoyed taking part in Easter activities with Rachel from Niscu. The children asked thoughtful questions. Have a lovely weekend!
