Class 1 What a week! We have had so much fun, and the weather has been fantastic; which has meant we have spent even more time outside. The children have loved dressing up for World Book Day and reading lots of books. We hope to keep their enthusiasm towards reading going and would like to encourage the children to take photos of them exploring books in exciting places (this can be looking at pictures, reading with someone {including pets} and just reading by themselves). We have some budding footballers in Class 1, who have been demonstrating their skills during our PE lessons and playtimes. In phonics lessons, Reception children have been exploring longer words and then using their understanding to create some fantastic sentences. In Nursey the children have been exploring ‘u’ and singing ‘Wheels on the bus’. As part of R.E. we have been exploring Shrove Tuesday and Lent. The children especially enjoyed the pancakes. In Maths, we have continued to explore the composition of numbers up to 10, using Numicon and other resources. Thank you for all your support and we look forward to seeing you next week.
In History this week, Class 2 have really enjoyed learning about ‘how toys have changed’ through playing with real old toys, which we have borrowed from Tullie House Museum. In small groups, they explored one toy at a time, read the toy explanation then took turns to have a play. Pupils discovered, when playing with the cup and ball, that it was extremely challenging to catch the ball. We also realised that the skipping ropes were very long and made from different materials to the materials skipping ropes are made from today. They read books from the past which had moving parts, and we made the learning link that the old book used paper fasteners/split pins just like we used when we made our moving monsters in DT. Pupils pulled a moving, wheeled, wooden rabbit toy around the classroom by pulling a rope (which was described as taking a rabbit for walk). Out of all the old toys, our favourite was the tumbling ladder toy, as the children watched the wooden block travel down from the top of the ladder to the bottom, one step at a time. In Art we have been exploring lines and shape, experimenting with different mediums to create contrasting and overlapping lines. This week, the class have worked exceptionally hard on their assessments as well as their singing, ready for next week’s music performances. Great effort, perseverance and work, well done!
Class 3 have had a busy and positive week! The children have been trying their very best during their assessments and we are very proud of the focus and determination they have shown. In PSHE, they have also been having thoughtful discussions about children’s rights and what it means for every child to feel safe, valued and heard.
We were lucky to enjoy some sunshine while learning new golf skills with some brilliant experts modelling techniques for us. World Book Day was full of excitement with fabulous costumes and cosy outfits, and the class have also been practising enthusiastically for next week’s music festival. Everyone joined in enthusiastically with the Razzamatazz workshop, learning a nice, a song and playing some team building game. Well done, Class 3!
This week in Class 4, we have been busy completing our assessments. The children have remained fantastically focused throughout and have tried their very best – we are extremely proud of their efforts.
We also took part in the first rehearsal for our Music Festival next week, and everyone is in for a real treat! The children showed great enthusiasm and are very excited to perform.
To celebrate World Book Day, we enjoyed a cosy day in our pyjamas while sharing and reading our favourite books. It was wonderful to see such a love of reading across the class.
During worship time, each class shared their follow-up activities from our recent author visit. Class 4 particularly enjoyed reading aloud the books they had written and illustrated themselves to the rest of the school. Everyone was very impressed with their creative and imaginative stories.
Well done, Class 4, for another fantastic week!
