Teaching & Learning Celebrations w/c 23/02/2026

Class 1 - The children in Class 1 have come back rested and raring to go! The children have been fantastic and we have been really impressed by their enthusiasm and their eagerness to learn. What a week it has been…the children in Reception have all been reviewing all their sounds and have made great progress with their reading. In P.E. the children have been practing their ball skills, which has been great to see. We have explored feelings and chatted about why we might feel those feelings. We did discuss that it is good to share your feelings with others if you can. We have started to explore who might be in a family and are looking forward to looking at all the wonderful photos in the coming weeks. We have had an author in (Linda) who shared her new children’s book and we have had lots of fun looking for signs of spring and exploring and investigating in our forest school area. Thank you for another fabulous week filled with so many memories. See you next week.

This week Class 2 really enjoyed listening to the story ‘Ralph and Sprout’, which our visiting author shared with the class. After listening to the story, we had the chance to draw our own characters and thought about where they might live. We have also immersed ourselves in this term’s new text for English, “Where the Wild Things are’. We’ve focused in on the characters (monsters and animals) physical presentations and enjoyed drawing and naming our own monster and animal characters. We also wrote a kenning poem to match our uniquely designed monster. In Mathematics, we have been working hard on adding and subtracting across the 10, using base ten to help us with tricky subtractions such as 72-48! In History we each thought of a favourite toy from the past and one from the present and in Science as part of our new animals and sensitive bodies unit, we enjoyed singing head, shoulders, knees and toes then labelling parts of the body. A super start to term four, with some great oracy when discussing answers, thoughts and ideas with each other. Well done Class 2!

Class 3 have had a great first week of term. They have been learning about fractions in Maths and are beginning to explore The Iron Man as their literacy text for this term. They are all growing in confidence in answering questions to explain their understanding of different topics.

They have been busy practising their songs for the music festival and have taken having different adults in the classroom in their stride. The author visit inspired many of them, not only with story writing but also the art of illustration.

Class 4 have had a very engaging week! We started off with a science investigation to model 'Natural Selection' The children used: tweezers, fingers and chop sticks to simulate a finches' beak. They found out that fingers worked the best to pick up rice grains. We evaluated whether our investigation was a fair test and discussed how we could improve our results to ensure more accurate data. In Geography, everyone had to decide whether they would like to live in a desert and justify their reasons using their knowledge from previous learning.

As part of World Book Day, we really enjoyed our Author Visit, the children were immersed in the book 'Ralph & Sprout' they used their imagination to come up with ideas from the characters in the book. We continued this theme throughout the afternoon with the children writing their own stories and illustrating. We will share with the rest of the school next week
