Teaching & Learning Celebrations w/c 02/02/2026

Another amazing week in Class 1! The children are working so hard even though they are all tired. We have been exploring the book ‘Penguin’ by Polly Dunbar this week in Drawing Club and the children have created some wonderful pictures and some fantastic codes. The children in Nursery have been really enjoying Scribble Club and Mrs Blake has put up some of their work in the hall, along with some Drawing Club work. The children in Reception have now explored all of their phase 3 sounds and we will now continue to review them and use them in our writing and reading.

This week the children have used pastels to create a portrait and have been introduced to the world of collage, which they will develop next week. In forest school, the children braved the elements and had fun playing games and supporting the ecosystems in our area (digging up the old raised bed and making bird feeders). In Maths, we have been exploring combining groups, numerals and understanding length. We have looked at some special places in R.E. and have explored which spaces Muslims and Hindus believe to be special and holy. Have a wonderful weekend and see you next week Class 1.

Class 2 - This week in DT, the children completed their moving monsters. They made a few improvements to last week’s designs so their models now meet the learning objective — they were very proud to see them working!

In English, we finished writing our mouse detective stories, focusing on using our ideas clearly and creatively.

For Science, pupils built animal habitats and then tested whether the natural materials they had chosen were waterproof. They carefully poured water over their habitats to see if the toy bear inside stayed dry or got wet.

In Maths, we have been practising addition and subtraction, using base ten equipment and hundred squares to help us with our calculations.

After a week of observing our local weather at Crosby-on-Eden, we have started looking at and comparing the weather across the United Kingdom. The children became weather forecasters for different regions, countries and capital cities, and we will continue our observations next week.

As always, there has been great daily work in phonics, spellings and mastering number. In Computing, the children added the finishing touches to their comics, including word stickers and extra details.

Another fantastic week in Class Two — well done everyone!

This week, Class 3 have had a fantastic time celebrating their learning across the curriculum. In English, we finished writing our setting narratives inspired by The Whale. The children focused carefully on using their neatest handwriting, and we are very proud to have these beautiful pieces displayed in the hall for everyone to enjoy. In Maths, pupils have been practising division of two and three digit numbers, with our Year 4s confidently using the more formal bus stop method.

Our Science lessons have been full of curiosity as we investigated shadows, comparing how their size changes depending on the distance from the light source. In Music, we have been enthusiastically singing songs in preparation for our upcoming musical celebration. Finally, in PE, the children have been polishing and developing their Space dances, showing great creativity, teamwork and enthusiasm. Well done, Class 3!

Class 4 have worked exceptionally hard this week and should be very proud of their efforts.

In English, we have been focusing on completing our narrative dilemmas, thinking carefully about how to set the scene and use dialogue to advance the action and build tension. The children have worked hard to edit and improve their writing, particularly their vocabulary choices and punctuation for speech, and it has been wonderful to see their confidence grow.

In Maths, the children have really enjoyed learning about ratio, solving a range of problems involving sharing, scaling, and explaining relationships between numbers. There has been a strong focus on reasoning, with pupils confidently explaining their thinking and showing perseverance when challenges arose.

Preparations for the upcoming music festival are well underway, with the children practising songs and developing confidence, expression, and teamwork. Across the week, behaviour has been excellent, with the children showing a positive attitude to learning and working well together. In Geography, the children have been practising speaking like an expert to explain the physical and human features of the desert environment to each other. Keep up the fantastic attitude to learning everyone!
