Class 1 This week we have been using Bat Fink as our inspiration for Drawing Club and the children have been very imaginative when creating their drawings and code. The children are continuing to impress us all with their dictated sentences, some children even went to show Miss Keitch their work. In Maths we have begun to explore doubles and odds and evens in various practical ways. The children have produced some beautiful painted portraits, some more abstract than others, but all unique (there were even a few who decided to create several masterpieces). In forest schools, we looked for signs of spring and developed our observational skills while playing games. Following on from our visit to the church last week, we have begun to learn that a Mosque is a holy and special place for Muslims in R.E. Thank you for all your hard work Class 1! See you next week for lots of fun.
Class 2 have worked exceptionally hard this week! In P.S.H.E we learned about safe and unsafe touch and how to say no. We learned about what each letters of PANTS stands for from the NSPCC underwear rules, and that pants are private (apart from a few exceptions). They've enjoyed making their moving monsters and will finish these next week. A big treat was the NISCU puppet show and inspiration for a moving monsters puppet using our DT creations. We are observing and recording the daily weather in Geography, including wind speed, direction, temperature and weather! On Wednesday we even managed to draw shadows on the playground using chalk because it was bright sunshine! In Science, we focused on animal footprints, using a ruler to measure the length of these and trying to identify the animal the footprint could belong to. Together we've enjoyed reading aloud 'The Gruffalo' and 'The Gruffalo's Child' linked to our lesson. Pupils have made a positive start in their new addition and subtraction to 100 unit and written parts two and three of their stories. In Dance, we expressively demonstrated buying, opening and looking for a ticket within a carefully selected candy bar item and in gymnastics we created curved pathways on, over and around apparatus. The children have been sharing their talents too in class, from drawing skills, dance steps and gymnastics routines, we're enjoying celebrating and seeing each other’s achievements.
Class 3 have been working hard on practising their multiplication of 2- and 3-digit numbers. They have been consolidating the formal methods through a variety of practical strategies, which has really helped to solidify their understanding. In addition, we have been crafting the final paragraphs of our 'whale' narratives. The students are eager to complete these and share their imaginative stories. We also had a fantastic day at the woods, where we explored reflections and light using mirrors, even trying our hand at creating secret messages. It was a day filled with curiosity and discovery. Our learning environment both in lessons and in the classroom has been wonderfully calm and focused. It's now time to extend this calm and responsible behaviour to how they move around the school during break and lunchtimes.
Class 4 have had a very productive week!
In English, we began our new text King Kong, focusing on describing the main characters. In Geography, we have been locating the continents and identifying deserts around the world. Our Science learning has focused on understanding the difference between inherited and environmental variations. In Music, we started learning songs in preparation for the Music Festival, and in PE we have been improving our gymnastics sequences, thinking carefully about flow and movement. It has also been lovely to see so many children completing quizzes this week, with lots of reading taking place both in school and at home.
Well done everyone!
