Teaching & Learning Celebrations w/c 19/01/2026

Class 1 - This week we have been continuing to use our phonetical knowledge to write words and sentences in Drawing Club and we have even had a go with writing a dictated sentence. The children are continuing to demonstrate their artistic skills, creating a colourful, abstract self portrait. The children are getting quite impressive using their hands to push balls around, while developing their gross motor skills. In RE we are looking at special places and we explored St. John’s Church, looking at all the special parts of the church and how they make us feel. In Maths the children have been exploring 6,7 and 8 and capacity, which has been lots of fun and even a bit messy. Thank you for all your hard work Class 1, see you next week for lots more fun.

Class 2 had a great time at the woods on Monday! Whilst there, they practised using compasses and reading north, east, south and west as they navigated around the woods. In DT, they designed their moving monsters, which they'll make next week using card and paper fasteners. During English, we planned and wrote part one of our own mouse detective story. For Mathematics we concluded our shape unit. We worked on curved pathways in gymnastics using high, medium and low heights when balancing and travelling. As part of keeping safe in P.S.H.E. we decided whether to say yes, no, I'll ask or tell in different staying safe situations and discussed the reasoning. Another busy week, full of rich learning! Well done class two!

Class 3 have had a very busy and exciting week of learning. In English, the children have begun planning their setting narratives based on being “whale spotters”. They have worked hard to develop rich vocabulary, thinking carefully about atmosphere, senses and setting to engage the reader.

In Maths, we have been tackling some tricky multiplication problems involving three-digit numbers. The children have also been applying their understanding of correspondence, using careful reasoning and perseverance to solve problems accurately.

Our Science learning has focused on identifying different light sources. The children explored their environment and recorded their observations clearly by drawing results tables to show what they discovered.

In Geography, Class 3 have been learning about the features of a city and comparing different places. They have made thoughtful comparisons and shown growing confidence using geographical vocabulary. We have also enjoyed dancing in PE, working in pairs to create a series of movements portraying astronauts and aliens.

Well done, Class 3, for your fantastic effort and enthusiasm this week!

Class 4 In English, we began our new text King Kong, focusing on describing the main characters. In Geography, we have been locating the continents and identifying deserts around the world. Our Science learning has focused on understanding the difference between inherited and environmental variations. In Music, we started learning songs in preparation for the Music Festival, and in PE we have been improving our gymnastics sequences, thinking carefully about flow and movement. It has also been lovely to see so many children completing quizzes this week, with lots of reading taking place both in school and at home.

Well done everyone
