Teaching & Learning Celebrations w/c 13/01/2025

Class 1 have been incredibly busy this week. We used our modelling skills to make plasticine penguins as part of our 'Would you rather?' topic. We enjoyed our second Sands Centre session, with each child making an excellent attempt at some very tricky moves and jumps. They all showed a really positive attitude, recognising what they found tricky but persevering. We were all excited to start Drawing Club, our new literacy session, using the story 'Not now Bernard' and look forward to sharing the children's progress. In Maths, Reception have been looking at one more, one less, composition of 6, 7 and 8 and also odd and even numbers, while nursery are looking at ways of showing 1, 2 and 3. In SCARF we continue to talk about keeping ourselves safe, focusing on what's safe for us to put into our body.

This week Class 2 enjoyed drawing 2D shapes in Maths also in Art in the form of the artist ‘Wassily Kandinsky’.  Pupils overlapped the shapes then painted in the spaces using primary colours.  In their shape work, they’ve been learning about symmetry in 2D shapes and the properties of 3D shapes by counting the number of faces, edges and vertices these solid shapes have.  Designing their own creature and habitat in the form of ‘Bog Baby’ has been another highlight this week ready for writing their instructions for creating their creatures habitat.

This week Class 3 have enjoyed swimming and had another successful session. They are demonstrating our school values when out of school. We have been dividing numbers by 1 or itself, we had some fantastic discussions around this concept. In Geography, we have been learning about the earth's structure and how earthquakes occur. We did some fun practical models to demonstrate how the plates move. In Science, we are finding out about the function of teeth in humans. We used playdough to create teeth models.

Class 4 This week has flown by in Class 4, we have been learning about similes and metaphors to help us write a descriptive poem in English.

Everyone enjoyed our visit to the woods, where the children built their own shelters, working well in teams and problem solving.

In PE, the children have been thinking about prejudice and discrimination, creating dance sequences to express their feelings.

Specialist music teacher (Ed Taylor) paid his first visit in Class 4 to teach the children songs which we are going to perform in the Music and Drama Festival.

In Science, we have been learning about the eight phases of the moon. Did you know the moon doesn't' actually change shape?

We are all excited about our trip to London next week. Early to bed on Sunday!
