Class 1 This week Reception took advantage of the autumn sunshine and had a walk around the village. They spotted lots of signs of autumn and were fantastic ambassadors for the school. We have been working hard with our phonics and blending and have really impressed everyone with how many phonemes we know. In Literacy, Reception have completed their work on 'The Something', working hard to make their plans and use them to come up with their own sentences. In our SCARF sessions we have been talking about different emotions and have linked in with our Colour Monster feelings register. We all enjoyed taking part in RE week. We learned a little about El Salvador and took great care decorating our own brightly coloured crosses.
Class 2 enjoyed an autumnal day at the woods with wonderful weather on Monday. They especially enjoyed the archery, stick whittling, lunch preparing, tree climbing, games and free play. In Science, our animal enthusiasts particularly enjoyed learning about what different animals eat such as carnivores, omnivores and herbivores. Our stories are nearly complete, with just the final write up left to complete. We will continue recalling our number bonds to 10 and 20 which we were working on in maths. Learning about 'Christianity in Italy' for R.E. week was interesting, and we enjoyed sharing our knowledge at 'Lanercost Priory' this morning. Our knowledge about 'The Great Fire of London' is growing and we are helping our new class member 'Flashback Ted' to remember more by recalling and telling him what we already know. Another busy week in Class 2, with so many of our school values continually shown throughout our week such as perseverance as we walked back from the woods, friendship when peers were worried, lonely our upset and trust to complete tasks and given responsibilities. Well done Class 2!
Class 3 have been busy writing their stories in English. We were all enthusiastic and I am sure there will be some great writing at the end of the week. We have been finishing our unit in Maths on place value and we have been rounding numbers to the nearest 10, 100 and 1000. In History, we have been drawing pyramids and using key vocabulary to discuss how they were made and created a fact file. We had a fun morning on the playground with our bikes for Bikeability and learned some useful cycling skills. This week, class 3 have really been ready to learn and demonstrate our school values - especially perseverance and respect.
Class 4 This week, Class 4 have been taking part in Bikeability, learning how to keep safe on the road and maintain their bikes. They remained focused and determined even in the rain! The instructors commented on their resilience and perseverance, which was great to hear!
Everyone has enjoyed leaning about the causes of WW2 in History, asking lots of questions and sharing their knowledge.
We ended the week with a visit to Lanercost Priory, joining other schools to celebrate RE week. They enjoyed sharing their learning.
