Class 1 have had another busy week. We thoroughly enjoyed our challenges on our Maths Day, demonstrating some fantastic problem solving and teamwork. In Maths we have been working on the number 4, finding different ways to build it, inside and out. In our SCARF sessions we continued learning about what makes us special, with a show and tell of things that are important to us. The children listened carefully and asked some very thoughtful questions. We had a brilliant session at the Forest on Tuesday, spotting lots of signs of autumn while exploring and keeping warm with hot chocolate. During play: we have been busy in the mud kitchen making menus and working hard in our mud cafe; we have explored how different ramps affect the speed of cars; we've been creating our own collages in our creative area and we have set each other challenges on the trim trail and obstacle course.
Class 2 relished their 2-d shape problem solving group challenges on our maths day. We learned a new shape 'Parallelogram' and recapped on other 2-d shapes. Using large wooden shapes, pupils created different pictures such as a robots and trees. The children persevered, communicated, and took turns in order to succeed in organising the shapes into the required shape. Another highlight this week was creating our wax resist weather pictures, using candle wax as a drawing tool then painting over with watery, black paint. In English they created their own river story plan, with their characters boats travelling through a range of settings. During P.S.H.E was lots of laughter in our feelings miming games, with 1 child miming a feeling and situation, another guessing the feeling and the other guessing the reasons for that emotion. The children continue impress Mrs Hodgson and I with their growing independence and confidence in class two. Well done year 1 and 2!
Class 3 started the week with a wonderful visit to Black Wood. They engaged with lots of activities and games to enhance their learning. They really demonstrated our school values on this visit. Including perseverance on the slackline and archer and respect of each other and adults by playing games and listening to one another. The week has been busy, still exploring concepts in Place Value such as counting in 100s and 1000s and using number lines. We had a fantastic day on Thursday with the Problem Solving workshop, each group really focused on the problem in front of them and tried different strategies to find a solution. We have been continuing our work in Science, thinking about how rocks can change from sedimentary to metamorphic and we used this opportunity to create infographics in computing about facts about rocks. In English, we have been practising using speech marks and looking at the skills we need to write our pieces in the coming weeks.
Class 4 have worked really hard this week. In English, we have been writing setting descriptions, thinking about interesting vocabulary and adding speech.
In PSHE, the children have been taking part in role play, acting out scenarios of being a good friend. In History, we have been researching advancements in technology during WW1.
Everyone enjoyed solving puzzles during maths day, some were definitely harder than they looked, the children demonstrated fantastic perseverance and problem-solving skills. Well done!
