Teaching and learning celebrations w/c 03/06/2024

Class 1 have had an absolutely fantastic week back! We have had so many exciting visitors and visits. We had a brilliant time at Eden Rock with Jess and Ryan - they were very impressed with how we persevered and encouraged our friends when they found it tricky. We have been busy learning how to saw at Forest School and have been making our own wooden slice decorations. In Reception we have started to read our new book for the half term, 'The Storm Whale' and have been finding out all about whales. In Nursery we have been reading the book 'Lifesize Baby Animals' and seeing how big or small different babies are compared to us. Well done, everyone!

Class 2 This week class two have enjoyed lots of practical activities such as making overnight oats in DT, taking part in a teeth workshop led by the dentist and planting seeds in Science to investigate if seeds germinate more quickly with plant food or without plant food.   They have begun writing their own four-part stories in English.  In Maths we have all been working on telling the time, the children are now very good at informing the class when it's o'clock or half-past the hour.  The pupils enjoyed practising for sports day at the village green on Monday.    We've been learning about Islam via 'Zoom' and 'Judaism' from Sheila this week as part of our religious education.   In Geography we have begun learning about the 'Amazon' rainforest.   Next week, the year ones will have their 'Phonics' Screening Checks' which they've been working hard prepare for at home and school.

Class 3   have started the term strong with their hard work and engagement with learning.  We have started learning about Vikings in our history topic.  We have also enjoyed numerous visitors such as a worship about Eid ul Adha and a Judaism workshop. We also had a visit from the dentist and did some activities to help us brush our teeth.  We rounded the end of the week with an exciting trip over the river to Aglionby Wetland. Here, we learned about habitats and the flora and fauna that inhabit this environment.  This was a fantastic way to introduce our new science unit for this term.

Class 4 have settled back into learning really well after half term. This week, they have enjoyed their visit to the Sands Centre to take part in gymnastics and trampolining. Everyone demonstrated resilience, friendship and trust, it was a very active session. In PSHE, the children have been playing the role of Agony Aunts and Uncles, offering advice to their peers on changes and growing up. They also enjoyed writing positive messages to each other and we discussed how this made us feel. We have had a visit from the dentist, the children had the opportunity to take part in activities which helped remind them how to clean teeth properly and keep mouths healthy. In Science, the children have been learning about inherited and acquired traits during our evolution and Inheritance topic. They had fun creating different variations of dogs and finding out how giraffes got their long necks. We are continuing to master our French reading, writing and speaking by learning about what we do at 'The Weekend'.
