Teaching and learning celebrations w/c 29/04/2024

Class 1 have had a fantastic week, making the most of our revamped outdoor area in the spring sunshine. Our class story was 'Tad', we have been observing our tadpoles to see if we can spot any changes. In Reception we have begun writing our 'Opening Octopus' for our half term text, 'The Extraordinary Gardener'. We have been using oil pastels to draw sunflowers and gerberas. Our SCARF sessions this week have been about keeping ourselves healthy - we have talked about making healthy choices in what we eat, doing exercise, and keeping a record of how much water we drink each day. In PE, Reception enjoyed another trampolining session at the Sands Centre, while Nursery impressed us with their throwing and catching.

Class 2 have enjoyed the sunshine this week, especially playing on the field.  They used their perseverance to create a 3-d fish in our art block using masking tape, newspaper and cardboard inspired by sculpture ‘Big Fish’ by the artist ‘John Kindness’.  In History they continued learning about ‘Mary Anning’ and her fossil discoveries and in science revised ‘Mrs Gren’ to sort living, nor living and never alive.  In PSHE we reminded ourselves about hygiene and the importance of handwashing to reduce infection and germs.  Our diary writing as Erin is well under way in English. Another hard-working week in class two and at home too.

Class 3   started the week with a visit to the river.  We explored the field, using our eyes and magnifying glasses.  We sketched plants in the environment.  We also had fun playing games and exploring.  We have also enjoyed dissecting flowers to investigate the parts.  We examined some artefacts in history such as a comb made out of bone, pottery and a spearhead.  In French, we started learning about where we live.  We have started planning our Outsider stories in English.  Such as busy and productive week!

Class 4 have had a very productive week! We have continued learning map skills in Geography. Everyone has been trying hard with their persuasive writing in English. Punctuation and grammar skills have really improved. In Maths, the children have shown lots of resilience when problem solving. In PE, we have been taking part in athletics activities, racing fairly, and supporting our friends. The children waited in anticipation, eager to find out about the end of year production. I'm sure they'll let you know! Have a lovely Bank Holiday weekend.
