Teaching and learning celebrations w/c 16/04/2024

Class 1 have had a fantastic first week, settling back into our routines well and keen to get stuck in. They were very excited to explore our revamped outdoor area and have been busy: digging; building; baking; balancing; turn taking; creating; problem solving; negotiating and organising. Reception have begun to look at our new text for this half term, a beautiful story called 'The Extraordinary Gardener'. They have been designing their own extraordinary gardens. In PE we had our first trampolining session at the Sands. Nursery have been reading 'Giraffes can't Dance' as part of their SCARF sessions and will be talking about what their bodies need and how to make healthy choices. We are very proud of how Class One have welcomed our new starters, helping them with our routines and inviting them to play.  Well done, everyone.

Class 2 (from the children)   I liked our new story in English 'The Secret of Black Rock'.  I loved the Sands Centre, I also liked the daily mile and looking at everyone’s' 'Brilliant Beginnings'. I liked the daily mile best this week.  I enjoyed Rachel's worship.  I enjoyed the learning line and thinking about things I can do and would like to learn to do.  I LOVE THE DAILY MILE! I liked the gymnastics obstacle course at the Sand Centre.  I loved trampolining at the Sands.  I liked making a new friend.    The Secret of Black Rock is a good story.  I liked Rachel coming in for worship.  I liked playing.  I enjoy getting to eat my dinner with my friends.

Class 3   have come back ready to learn and are demonstrating our school values every day.  This week, we have completed a Design and Technology block.  This involved creating a fabric container using techniques to stiffen fabric.  They discovered that glue does this job and were able to create a more solid structure from fabrics.  They look fantastic and their designs are effective and useful.  We also made a start on our new English unit 'Leaf' where we will be writing an 'Outsider Narrative'.  The children had some interesting ideas about the text we are using just based on pictures and came up with some creative predictions about this story. Hopefully, this will inspire our own narratives in a few weeks' time.

Class 4 have made a positive start to the summer term. The children have enjoyed taking part in drama activities during English lessons, thinking about the characters in the text. In Geography, we have been learning about Ordnance Survey maps, contour lines and map scales. In Science, everyone became anthropologists, studying artefacts and making deductions. The children have shared their Brilliant Beginnings, sone great efforts with researching our new topic 'Amazing Africa'.

Keep up the great work!
