Teaching and learning celebrations w/c 04/03/2024

Class 1 had a fantastic trip to the woods this week - it was a beautiful spring day with lots of exploring, climbing, creating and baking campfire bread. We noticed lots of signs of spring. We had another great cricket session with Fraser, with the children showing lots of perseverance. For World Book Day we shared the story 'Anna Hibiscus' Song' which is set in Nigeria . We researched what kinds of animals live in Nigeria, then did some brilliant drawings to share with the rest of school. We have continued to read traditional tales during story time. This week's focus book was Little Red Riding Hood. Another busy week!

Class 2 loved their muddy walk to the woods.  They loved hunting for Mrs Pattinsons' missing owl, making a guardian angel from clay on a chosen tree trunk to watch over the woods, eating their sausage risotto around the fire and melting their s’mores over the fire for dessert.  We finished with fun circles games and sardines.   They've enjoyed reconstructing a collage in art from their painted pieces of paper, creating various images from dogs, hedgehogs to flowers, each demonstrating their creative flair!  In Geography we learned about the seas and oceans surrounding the United Kingdom.   In English we thought of nouns, adjectives, verbs and adverbs to describe our special person.  The class had a wonderful World Book Day too!

Class 3   have had a busy week, completing our final assessments in Maths as well as preparing for Mothering Friday.  We enjoyed the book we read for world Book Day and enjoyed baking Guyanese Lime Cookies for everyone to try.  We are still busy practising our songs for the Music and Drama Festival and they are sounds great!

Class 4 have been extremely busy this week! We have been learning a few dance moves and actions in for a particular song we will be singing at the Carlisle Cathedral. We're keeping it a surprise for you!

In RE, the children have composed prayers ready for our Mother's Day service in the church. They have also taken part in 'Ambassadors of the Faith', where the children linked up with other schools and children from Redbridge secondary school ( in London) discussed their faith and how it impacts their lives.

In Design and Technology, everyone has been designing a safety belt and programming micro bits - to act as a night sensor which they will add to their final design.

The children took part in World Book Day, where they found out about refugees around the world. We found out that Albert Heinstein and Freddy Mercury were refugees. We shared our  thoughts about the book 'Wisp, A story of hope' with the rest of the school in worship time.

The children have enjoyed making a posy with our church community for Mother's Day.
