Teaching and learning celebrations w/c 19/02/2024

Class 1 We have had a fantastic week back after the half term break. The children have been busy reading 'The Billy Goats Gruff' as we will be focusing on traditional tales over the next few weeks. They have enjoyed joining in and performing! In Maths, Reception have been working hard using their knowledge of doubles. This has been quite tricky but they have all persevered. We have been noticing signs of Spring, with lots of children spotting daffodils, crocuses and lambs. Reception loved their walk to Gracie's farm and have talked about it ever since. In PE reception had their first cricket session with Fraser, while nursery have been working on their core strength. Well done, everyone!

Class 2 Comments from the children...We liked reading 'Where The Wild Things Are' in English. We enjoyed Geography, learning the names of the 5 oceans and 7 continents. The songs were fun. It was quiet hard to find them on the globes, maps and in the atlases. We enjoyed learning about the seasons and playing the guess the seasons or months games. I liked painting the squares of paper with lines and in different ways in art for our collage. We can't wait for the gymnastics competition. we like reading all the sounds and words in phonics. We liked the fun games we played with Fraser in cricket.

Class 3 We have had a busy first week back. The children have enjoyed our new book ‘Jemmy Button’ and finding out about the story. We have also enjoyed PE, we finished our dance and also started cricket. We have discovered that Beatrix Potter was an amazing Scientist and we are finding out about her for our hall display. We have also been learning about perimeter in maths which is interesting.

Class 4 What a busy first week back! The children have enjoyed making predictions about our new text in English, using a variety of clues, images, and a soundscape. They can't wait to find out if they were correct.
During our visit to Carlisle Cathedral, everyone sang brilliantly throughout the workshop. Our children received some lovely comments from the adults. We can't wait to perform in front of an audience.
In Science, the children worked scientifically, carrying out an investigation to separate materials, using sieving, filtering, and evaporation methods.
I'm PE, everyone enjoyed their first cricket session with Fraser, he was very impressed with their focus and enthusiasm. Keep up the great work Class 4!

GYMNASTICS – Well done to our Key step gymnasts for today’s performance at the tournament. You’ve all done so wonderfully well representing school.
