Class 1 This week in Class 1 we have been continuing our learning about 'Who Helps Us'. In our SCARF sessions we have shared ideas about staying safe, we have made some special posters to help round school.
In Reception, we have been using our clay techniques to sculpt models of our faces. In phonics we have been working hard to chop up and read longer words - we are doing really well! In Maths we have been investigating length and finding different ways to represent 6, 7 and 8. We had a fantastic football session with Paul and Haydon - their football skills are really coming on.
In Nursery we have been telling the story of 'Little Red Riding Hood', using puppets and remembering the key parts. We have looked at mass and balance, making ourselves into weighing scales to decide whether something is heavier or lighter than something else.
Class 2 have written some super stories this week, like true authors, planning then writing their opening, build-up, problem and ending before writing it up neatly on paper. Their stories were adapted from this half-terms text 'Hermelin'. They loved creating a clay print in Art and applying the range of printing skills learned this half-term to create a hand-print piece of art inspired by the artist 'Karen Lederer'. In Science, pupils enjoyed investigating which paper was the most absorbent and timing how long it took each piece to absorb the water using stop watches and ipads. In History we compared 'Florence Nightingale' and 'Mary Seacole' identifying similarities and differences between the two heroes. The children are quick to spot birds nibbling at our class fat ball and a robins appearance sparked a huge discussion linked to the saying "Robins appear when loved ones are near'. Great work and progress has been shown this week, well done team Class 2!
Class 3 have been busy editing and writing up their fables about a Fox and a Magpie. The children have really enjoyed being immersed in the story and writing their own versions. In science, we have been learning about melting of solids. We have also been dividing in maths and working out how to divide a two digit number by a one digit number. In history, we have learned about the neolithic period and how they started farming. They had more permanent houses. We are most proud of our football skills and our classmates who did an amazing job at the gymnastics.
Class 4 another busy week for Class 4, they have really enjoyed carrying out filtration experiments in Science. Everyone has improved their netball skills, working on passing and pivoting. In Music, the children are learning lyrics in preparation for our workshop at the Cathedral. We have been working on improving arithmetic skills in maths, the children are proud of their achievements. Some children planned and delivered children's worship to the rest of the school. Well done everyone!
Gymnastics A huge ‘well done’ to our gymnastics for their amazing efforts yesterday at the County Championships who came away with 2nd place as a Team (Jess, Emmie, Clara, Kate & Sophie) and individual 1st place and trophy for best floor routine (Sophie). You all represented school so amazingly well.
