Teaching and learning celebrations w/c 20/11/2023

Class 1 have had a very productive week. We are well underway with our rehearsals for the Nativity and are enjoying spending time with Class Two. Nursery have been reading 'Hippo has a Hat' and have created some great hat designs. Reception's new book is 'The Happy Hedgehog Band' - a very noisy story! Reception have been working very hard to learn their tricky words, we are very impressed - they really are tricky!

Nursery are becoming subitising superstars and have been representing totals in different ways (circles, lines, cats!), while Reception have been learning all about shapes and beginning to use numerals in their recording.

In RE we have been learning about Hannukah, creating our own Hannukiah, and in SCARF we have been celebrating differences and talking about what makes us and our families special. It was fantastic to see all the crazy hair  - another way to celebrate the importance of being different.

Class 2 have shone this week, they've enjoyed creating a textured base from a range of papers and card in art, learning how to correctly hold and dip, dip, dab a paint brush when painting.   Their singing and speaking skills are developing well.   They relished their day at the woods, being confident at  identifying deciduous and evergreen trees linked to their science and learning the names of some trees from their leaves in the woods.   We having been writing up our 'Castles' information booklets in English.  In maths the year ones have been + and - using jumps on a number line whilst the year twos having been using a hundred square and also with base 10.  A favourite lesson is computing where this week we needed to sequence instructions to reach the treasure! Another great week in class two! WELL DONE!

Class 3 have worked especially hard on their writing this week.  We have been writing letters to the RSPCA about Mr and Mrs Twit's treatment of the monkeys and birds. we have used lots of emotive language.  We are now editing and typing our letters.  We have been learning about friction in science, and using force meters to measure the force when moving objects.  In maths, the year 3s have been practising column addition and subtraction where the year 4s have moved on to multiplication and division.  We have also been busy learning our songs and lines for our performance.  The lyrics and music is on seesaw for the children to practise at home.  We hope they get a chance to listen and learn the songs as this is their homework for the next couple of weeks.

Class 4 have had a great week! Rehearsals for our Christmas Production are in full swing! The children are taking their acting roles very seriously. Emily from CDA has been so impressed with their enthusiasm for dance.

In maths, we are learning all about fractions, it's great to see the children working together to work out calculations and solve problems.

In science, we have been finding out about the Circulatory System. In History, everyone has been investigating Mayan inventions. They had an opportunity to practise Mayan writing and number system. The children enjoyed taking part in Cross country at Talkin Tarn. Everyone did their best! Well done, Class 4!
