Teaching and learning celebrations w/c 09/05/2023

Class 1 have had another very busy week.

In maths we have been practising our number bonds to 10 as well as comparing numbers and amounts – which number is greater or smaller, who has more than or fewer than. We enjoyed playing number track hopscotch.

We are using our phonics to read longer words and are making our teachers very proud with how hard we’re trying.

We were very excited to see that we have one chrysalis – the other caterpillars are getting very big so we are keeping a close eye on them!

We have been sharing coronation party stories and have produced some fabulous writing about the new King.

In PSED we have been learning about healthy food and why it is important. We made smoothies and had them for our afternoon snack.

We have enjoyed our sessions with our PE coaches, Fraser and Nick, and are looking forward to our first ever cricket game next week.

Class 2 have shared their enthusiasm about the Coronation in their own news report as part of our Newspaper writing in English.  In maths many of the year ones are keen to share their counting in 2s, 5s and 10s or their times table fact recall, as part of their multiplication and division block of work.  Year 2 are getting to grips with learning to tell the time.  We continue to learn about significant astronauts in History.  Great perseverance from the Year 2s has been shown as they prepare for their SATS next week. We're also proud of the year ones ongoing improvements in their Phonics results too.  Keep up the good work!

In Class 3 this week, we have been continuing writing our newspaper reports.  We have had some fun creating headlines for our activities at Robinwood and we have started writing the main article.  The children have been excellent at interviewing each other about the activities.  In maths Year 4 have been continuing Decimals and Year 3 started Money, it would be really useful to get to know values of money at home to increase confidence with coin recognition.  We have been learning the names of fruits in French; how many fruits can you name?  We have started learning about 'sound' in science and we took part in a sound survey during the spectacular rain shower on Thursday afternoon (from the comfort of the classroom)!  Our Romans topic is underway, learning about life in Ancient Rome and what the Romans liked to do for entertainment.  The class have been enjoying our cricket sessions with Fraser and our weekly trip to the swimming pool.

Class 4 from the children

We have enjoyed computing, learning about the history of computers and creating a timeline. What even is a cassette tape and Walkman?

We have enjoyed writing a setting description in English, we chose: the underworld, mountains, caves and the ocean to describe. We will add our descriptions to our mythical stories.

We are improving our skills in rounders which is great!

In Geography, we enjoyed practising map skills and learning about the physical features of Greece.

I have enjoyed SATs because we can show what we have learnt.

I have enjoyed the maths SATs assessment.

I thought SATs was good because I thought it would be too hard, but it was ok.
